Some Musical Catches

Various Artists - Some Musical Catches - Текст песни

I. To all lovers of musick, performers and scrapers,
to those that love catches, play tunes and cut capers.
With a new catch I greet you and tho I say it that shou'dn't.
Like a fiddle, 'tis musick tho the words are but wood'n:

But my Brother John Playford and I shall present you,
e'er long with a Book, I presume will content you.
'Tis true we know well the Sale of good musick,
But to hear us perform woud make him sick or you Sick.

My maggot Man Sam, at the first temple gate,
will further inform you, if not my wife Kate,
From between the two devils near temple bar,
I rest your friend and servant John Carr.

II. A fiddler and fuddler are always together
like fiddle and case there was both or else neither,

United companions the like never known
and may be compared to two parts in one

The fiddler did fuddle and the fuddler did fiddle
a unison sure doth unriddle the Riddle

III. Of all the instruments that are
none with the viol can compare

Mark how the strings their order keep,
with a whet and a sweep.

But above all this still abounds
with a zingle, and a zit zan zounds.
