Tommy plays this song capoed on the third fret and playing in C relative to the
capo. (All chords are relative to the capo.)

He uses two C chords: the garden variety C you know, and another where he lifts
his finger from the first fret of the B string, which is C7M  .

When he plays F, he roots it at the third fret of the D string, rather than
playing a bar chord rooted at the first fret of the low E. Keep this in mind.

The descending walk at the ends of the choruses/verses starts in C, then move the
root down to B (C/B), then Am, then Am with a G bass (Am/G), then F, then G again.
This walk will be labeled as C C/B Am Am/G F G.

Also, at the ends of the choruses/verses, he plays the F mentioned above, then
brings his thumb around to fret a G on the low E string. This is marked as F/G.

If you can't find the track at his website (www.tommywomack.com) or on Spotify,
the song can be found on YouTube, although his solo live version varies a bit from
the live album version which I've transcribed here. (Remember that he originally
recorded this with his band, Daddy, and the album is called "At The Women's Club".)

Have fun!

"Martin Luther"
by Tommy Womack

(Intro C)

Martin Luther slung his feces up against the wall.

C7M
"Get thee hence here, Satan. You will not see me fall."

Dm Em F
Martin was a wanted man, it all just kinda got to him.

                                 F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
But now all Minnesota gives what Martin Luther's due him.

C
Martin Luther nailed a bunch of theses to a door.

C7M
Ninety-five in all, he coulda thought of more.

    Dm Em F
The printing press was hip, like the internet is now,

                                  F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
And Martin Luther got in trouble, like you don't know how.

(Chorus)

F G C C/B Am Am/G
Martin Luther said that a man can talk to God.

F G C C/B Am Am/G
All he needs between 'em is the taste of Jesus' blood.

F G C C/B Am Am/G
You don't have to sell things and you don't have to buy,

    F F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
And no man gets to say who goes to heaven when we die.

C
Martin Luther went to court, such as courts were then.

            C7M
You had the right to shut your mouth, and not open it back up again.

Dm Em F
Martin Luther talked, and Martin Luther talked,

                                 F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
And after Martin Luther finished talking, Martin Luther walked.

       C
So the Pope sent folks to kill him, and they prob'ly would,

     C
If a gang of friendly monks ain't hid him in a dungeon for his own good.

       Dm Em F
That's where he slung his feces, locked up in a cell.

                         F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
Hallucinating Satan, but otherwise holding up quite well.

(Chorus)

F G C C/B Am Am/G
Martin Luther said that a man can talk to God.

F G C C/B Am Am/G
All he needs between 'em is the taste of Jesus' blood.

F G C C/B Am Am/G
You don't have to buy things and you don't have to sell,

F G C C/B Am Am/G
No man gets to say who goes to heaven or to hell.

F G C C/B Am Am/G
You don't have sell things and you don't have to buy,

    F F/G C C/B Am Am/G F G
And no man gets to say who goes to heaven when we die.

       C C/B Am Am/G F G
Martin Luther.

       C C/B Am Am/G F G (end on C)
Martin Luther.
