Chole Dancer / Crown of Thorns
By Mother Love Bone, covered by Pearl Jam on a regular basis

CHLOE DANCER

Piano intro/verse, transcribed for guitar, standard tuning
(NB: if the big reach back to 2 on the low E string is too much, you can capo fret 2 but
then remove the capo when you transition to Crown of Thorns; ALTERNATELY play this
intro transposed down two frets so you can use the open E string, but then the transition to Crown of Thorns is
more dissonant since you still need to get to fret 5 base for those chords)

Repeat
e-------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------4--------------------4--------4---------|
G---------6--------6-----6--------6--------------6------|
D------6-----6--------6--------6-----------6------------|
A---------------------------------------4---------------|
E---4-----------------------6---------------------------|

B---------------4-----------------------4---------------|
G---------6--------6-----6--------6--------6-----6------|
D------6-----6--------6--------6-----6--------6---------|
A-------------------------------------------------------|
E---2-----------------------2---------------------------|

Chloe don't know better
Chloe's just like me (only beautiful)
A couple of years' difference
But those lessons never learned (and you know)

Chloe danced the tables
In the French quarter
She's always been given
So I can't always make her laugh

But I'm proud to say
And I won't forget
Time spent layin by her side (ooh)
The time spent layin by her side (ooh)

Dreams like this must die
And a dream like this must die
Dream like this must. . .

TRANSITION

Piano over guitar into, transposed for guitar, standard tuning

Repeat twice

B---------------4-----------------------4---------------|
G---------6--------6-----6--------6--------6-----6------|

Crown of Thorns chords used, standard tuning

Intro / Verses 1, 2, 3 / Choruses 1, 2
    Asus4 A Gsus4 G G5
e-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----|
B-----5-----5-----3-----3-----3-----|
G-----7-----6-----5-----4-----0-----|
D-----7-----7-----5-----5-----0-----|
A-----X-----X-----X-----X-----5-----|
E-----5-----5-----3-----3-----3-----|
(NB: the main verse and chorus progressions are basically Hendrix-esque power chords,
use your thumb on the bass E string and to mute the A string. Many interpretations
don't include the bass notes, but I think it makes the song sound fuller especially if you're solo, short a
guitar or playing on acoustic. G5 can also be played 3X503X, but I
think the version above is better differentiated from the G. I often let the e and A string ring in the A
chords and the e string ring in the G chords for fullness. There are many good tab versions of the usual three
string version of the verse/chorus part of the song, this is how I play it.)

Bridge 1
      A5 C5 B5 G5(2) D5
e-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----|
B-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----|
G-----2-----5-----4-----X-----7-----|
D-----2-----5-----4-----5-----7-----|
A-----0-----3-----2-----5-----5-----|
E-----X-----X-----X-----3-----X-----|
(NB: can let e, B, and G strings ring as applicable through entire section for fullness or if down a guitar;
can play A5 as 577XXX if you prefer)

Solo (rhythm guitar chords used, see solo section below for solo parts)
      E5 C7 Bsus4 Asus2 Em7 Dsus4
e-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----|
B-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----|
G-----9-----9-----9-----9-----12----12----|
D-----9-----9-----9-----9-----12----12----|
A-----7-----X-----X-----0-----10----X-----|

D-----9-----12----9-----9-----9-----12----|
A-----7-----10----X-----X-----0-----X-----|
E-----0-----0-----8-----7-----X-----10----|
(NB: all these chord shapes are to compensate for the bass notes that aren't there when playing solo - Jeff
seems to just play around with the low E string 8-10-8-7-5, and 8-10-8-7-10--| and I'm not sure the guitar
actually plays these chords, but it sounds fuller this way with one guitar)

Intro
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G G5

Verse 1
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G G5
Repeat 3x

Have you ever heard the story
Of mister faded glory
Say he who rides a pony must someday fall

I been talking to my altar
Saying life is what you make it
And if you make it death well rest your soul
Away, away, away yeah child

Verse 2
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G G5
Repeat 3x

It's a broken kind of feeling
She'd have to tie me to the ceiling
A bad moon's a coming better save your breath child

I want to tell you that I love you
But it doesn't really matter
I just can't stand to see you dragging down oh
Again, again, again
So I'm singing

Chorus 1
Asus4 A Asus4 A Asus4 A (pull off, hammer on, pull off, hammer/pull quickly)
Gsus4 G Gsus4 G Gsus4 G (pull off, hammer on, pull off, hammer/pull quickly)
Asus4 A Asus4 A Asus4 A (pull off, hammer on, pull off, hammer/pull quickly)
Gsus4 G G5
Repeat 2x

This is my kind of love
It's the kind that moves on
It's the kind that leaves me alone, yes it does

This is my kind of love
It's the kind that moves on
It's the kind that leaves me alone

Verse 3
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G
Asus4 A
Gsus4 G G5
Repeat 3x

I used to treat you like a lady
Now you're my substitute teacher
This bottle's not a pretty, not a pretty sight, yeah

I owe the man some money
So I'm turning over honey
Said mister faded glory is once again doing time

Chorus 2 (distortion)
Asus4 A Asus4 A Asus4 A (pull off, hammer on, pull off, hammer/pull quickly)
Gsus4 G Gsus4 G Gsus4 G (pull off, hammer on, pull off, hammer/pull quickly)

Repeat 2x

This is my kind of love
It's the kind that moves on
It's the kind that leaves me alone, yes it does

It's the kind that moves on
It's the kind that, it's the kind that...leaves me alone

Bridge 1
A5 C5

Repeat 4x, but on last, final section is C5 D5 (then E5 to start solo section)

Like a crown of thorns
It's all who you know, yeah
So don't burn your bridges, woman
Cause someday yeah heh heh hey

Solo
Rhythm:

Distorted electric:

G---------------------------------5r---(9)r--|
D----------5---------5bur-----5t7-7b---------|
A------5-7---7-5-7---------------------------|
E--5-8---------------------------------------|
(NB: the first two notes of the last lick, the A pentatonic scale on the E string, might
actually be just a palm muted 5-7 on the A string, but I think this sounds closer -
also, the first and final harmonic note can also be played on fret 12 on the B string or fret 4 on the G string
or any other variant of B - it is just feedback but tonally a B note - harmonic was the closest I could find.)

Bridge 2
Bass, transcribed to guitar (one octave too high)

I said a-baby

Don't burn your bridges, woman

Outro solos
Distorted electric:

D----------------------------------------5-------7br-----------------------------|
A------------------------------------5-7---7-5-7---------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
(NB: these are kind of buried in the mix, but the notes above are in there and he's just playing around with the
same shapes as the solo; have fun with it)
