Josef Rheinberger - Jonah - текст песни (слова)

Poor Jonah dropp'd into 'the whale'
 What duller tap room could there be
 With 'stead of wine the Salt, Salt, Sea
 Oh who could think of singing
 The 'Golden Carp' shall swallow me
 For there I'll surely find good cheer,
 with sparkling Wine and foaming Beer
 and maids rare dishes bringing
 Poor Jonah sat there all alone
 where never maid nor dance was known,
 Wheree'er he look'd he spied whalebone
 And found it rather dreary
 I'll gladly praise the dear "Black Bear"
 there's not a sign of whale bone, there,
 In that huge place there's room to spare
 To dance until you're weary there's room to spare
 To dance until you're weary.

 But in "The Whale" that hostel drear,
 No sound is heard the livelong year;
 Such water fish it is quite clear,
 Must needs be ever silent.
 But from afar "The White Swan" sends,
 Sounds wafted on the Summer breeze,
 And lures us to sweet pleasures there
 With notes of viol, song, and glee.
 That Jonah was a prophet too
 I do consider clearly true,
 Else how in water butts could he
 So safely make his dwelling.
 Sing at "The Swan," dance at "The Bear,"
 Let those who care to, go else where;
 And in "The Carp" we'll drown dull care
 But in "The Whale" no Thank you.
