Die Pfadfinderbewegung in Deutschland erschuf aufgrund des Inhaltes den deutschen Text âNehmt Abschied Brüderâ und wird heute oftmals noch zum Abschluss von Lager- und Ferienfahrten gespielt und gesungen. Entstanden ist diese Melodie aus einer alten schottischen Volkweise aus dem Jahre 1678, der Text stammt von James Watson aus dem Jahr 1711.
